Poverty has always been a very strong issue in Nepal. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. The GNP is only $ 180 per capita and recent estimates put the proportion of the population living in absolute poverty at 71 % nation wide.
But another part of Multi caste, Multi language and multi cultural landlocked and developing country Nepal has nationwide 72% of adult population are literate and 86 % of Nepalese women cannot read and write. This as result to many social disorders such as unemployment, illiteracy, superstitions, caste and racial discrimination, such as Dalits, “Untouchable peoples” and more. Me self has witness and feel these things affecting the life of the people so badly as I was born in similar rural village, Kavre. Kavrepalanchok District is not far from the Kathmandu valley. It is about 30 km east of Kathmandu, a capital Himalayan country Nepal. Being so near to capital it lacks most all the basic infrastructure of development. Due to the poverty, many families of this district cannot afford to send their children to school and the schools itself are often badly in need of repair. From the past experience illiteracy has been proved to be major obstacles in the effective fruitful implementation of policies and programs conducted by government and other community programs. Similarly most of the rural children are still deprived from the education and basic health care.
Realizing that improvement in literacy status, access to knowledge and primary health care services together with increase in economic status seems to be a basic formula for improving the live standard of local community people and ensure sustainable development of the country itself. HHH Nepal has initiated children and women’s literacy programs through out Kavre District. It provided three levels of literacy classes targeting 15- 49 years old. Along with literacy program HHH is also providing Basic Health Care Service in local communities by organizing Health Camps frequently.
This has been our small dedicated effort towards our country and whole human civilization. As you our wish is to visualize our dream of better world where every human being could live with good food, good health, good cloth, good education, and a good place to live and a smile on every face.
